Zuzu
was sitting in the garden. She was thinking about things she didn't
understand. She didn't know why her life was so hard (دشوار).
Nani (grandmother) looked out the window at Zuzu. She made 2 cups of tea and took them out to her dear granddaughter.
They drank their tea in silence ( در سکوت ). After a while ( بعد از
مدتی ) Nani said, "Do you know why life is so hard sometimes?"
Zuzu shook her head ( سر تکان داد ), "No."
So Nani told her the story of the ant
( مورچه ) and the caterpillar ( کرم ابریشم ):
Once there was a proud ( مغرور ) ant. One day when he was running up a
tree, he saw a caterpillar in a cocoon ( پیله ). The free (رایگان)
proud ant laughed at the caterpillar.
"What a
terrible life ( زندگی وحشتناک ) you have locked ( قفل شده ) in that
cocoon. Look at me! I'm free. I can run wherever ( هر کجا که ) I want
and do anything I want." Then the ant ran away.
Then grandmother said: Zuzu, now I will tell you the most important part of the story. I hope ( امیدوارم ) you will never forget
( هرگز فراموش نکن ) it:
I do not want anyone to have a hard life! But a hard life is not the end of the story
( پایان داستان نیست ). A hard life, not an easy
(آسان) life, helps us understand and learn (باعث می شود ما یاد بگیریم) the most important things.
If you feel shut in ( احساس بسته بودن ) right now and not free, don't worry. Like the caterpillar you are being changed into something beautiful. Let this time make your life strong, good, beautiful, and free.
Zuzu promised ( قول داد ) she would not forget.
