#34 The power of stories

A famous ( معروف ) writer in India wrote a story 125 years ago. The writer was India's most loved storyteller (قصه گو ). His name was Tagore.
     His story
touched the heart (قلب را لمس کرد) of his country.
It helped people feel ( حس کردن ) the suffering (رنج کشیدن) of others (دیگران). It helped people learn to love.

Children are still required ( ضروری ) to read this story in school. Their parents remember
( به خاطر سپردن ) reading it when they were little. The story is called "Kabuliwala".
The story is about an Afghan man who must go to India to find work ( پیدا کردن کار ) to support (برای حمایت) his family. People in India are afraid of him and want him to go home.  He has only one friend in India. It is a little girl, Mina. She loves him. She does not see his old clothes. She sees his kindness
( مهربانی ). She sees his love.
Mina's mother is afraid ( ترسیده ) of the Kabuliwala. His clothes prevent (جلوگیری کردن) her from seeing his kindness ( مهربانی ).  Mina's father is ashamed ( شرمنده ) that his daughter has a Kabuliwala for a friend. Her father's wealth
( ثروت ) prevents him from seeing a poor man's goodness ( خوبی ).
But people can change (تغییر دادن). People can learn ( فرا گرفتن ) to love even after ( حتی پس از ) they are taught ( به آنها آموزش داده می شود ) to hate and fear ( نفرت و ترس ). In the end, the rich man does not see a poor man. He sees a father. A man with a heart like himself ( مثل خودش ).
This story of learning to see ( یادگیری دیدن ) others rightly, changed a whole country.
Maybe someday you too will write a story
like Tagore's story that helps your country and even the world!
